Artistic Director – Eleanor Wallace

Eleanor Wallace has been leading North Halton Community Singers as Artistic Director since December 29, 2022. She retired as a high school music teacher from the Halton District School Board. It was a privilege, indeed, for Eleanor to start the music program at Oakville’s newly opened Garth Webb Secondary School in 2012 after teaching music for 23 years at Georgetown District High School. Along the way, Eleanor enjoyed working with many wonderful students, parents, teaching colleagues and mentors.

With a Bachelor of Music degree in violin and piano, Eleanor describes herself as a lifelong learner and has invested in countless professional development opportunities and courses throughout her 40 year career including, Jamey Aebersold Jazz Camps, choral conducting courses at Westminster Choir College, a division of Rider University (Princeton, New Jersey), and most notably, the Summer Choral Conducting Symposium held at The University of Oxford and taught by Dr. James Jordan, a leading choral pedagogue and author of several books. During the symposium, Eleanor enjoyed the opportunity of working with Dr. Jordan’s fabulous choir.

Having worked alongside wonderful students in choirs, concert bands, jazz bands and musical theatre, Eleanor took many ensembles to national competitions and festivals, as well as performance tours to Europe. She was delighted to be appointed Artistic Director of NHCS to support and add to the remarkable accomplishments of the choir, with its more than 50-year history. While making music with others is an extraordinary and noble endeavour, most of all Eleanor values the important sense of community that the North Halton Community Singers fosters and represents.
