Artistic Director - North Halton Community Singers

Artistic Director – Eleanor Wallace

Eleanor Wallace was appointed Interim Music Director of the North Halton Community Singers on December 29, 2022. At the choir’s Annual General Meeting on May 8, 2023, the Board of Directors announced that it has appointed Eleanor Wallace as Artistic Director for the coming year.

Eleanor is retired from the Halton District School Board as a high school music teacher. For the last ten years of her career, Eleanor taught music at Garth Webb Secondary School, located in Oakville. It was a privilege, indeed, for Eleanor to have started the music programme at GWSS upon the school’s opening in 2012. Previously, Eleanor taught music at Georgetown District High School for 23 years. Along the way, Eleanor worked with many wonderful students, parents, teaching colleagues and mentors.

With a Bachelor of Music degree in violin and piano, Eleanor describes herself as a lifelong learner and has invested in countless professional development opportunities and courses throughout her 40 year career including, Jamey Aebersold Jazz Camps, choral conducting courses at Westminster Choir College, a division of Rider University (Princeton, New Jersey), and most notably, the Summer Choral Conducting Symposium held at The University of Oxford and taught by Dr. James Jordan, a leading choral pedagogue and author of several books. During the symposium, Eleanor enjoyed the opportunity of working with Dr. Jordan’s fabulous choir.

Having worked alongside wonderful students in the Concert Band and Jazz Band idioms and taken many ensembles to National Competitions and festivals as well as Performance Tours to European destinations, Eleanor was delighted to be appointed as the Artistic Director of the NHCS. Eleanor looks forward to supporting this superb musical organization with its many remarkable accomplishments over its more than 50-year history and, of course, its record of excellence in choral singing. While making music with others is an extraordinary and noble endeavour, most of all, Eleanor values the important sense of community that the North Halton Community Singers fosters and represents.
