Eleanor Wallace

Eleanor Wallace Appointed As Artistic Director

At the choir’s Annual General Meeting on May 8, 2023, the Board of Directors announced that it has appointed Interim Director Eleanor Wallace as Director for the coming year.

Eleanor took over the musical leadership of the choir for the Spring 2023 session on very short notice, following the departure of Chris Dawes. Under her baton, the choir performed two very successful concerts: a March 25 fundraiser for the Townsend Smith Foundation entitled “Beatles & Friends”, as well as the choir’s more formal Spring concert on May 6 entitled “United We Sing”, which was rewarded by a standing ovation.

Mark Peterson

Mark Peterson - Accompanist

Mark holds an Honours Bachelor of Music degree from Western University where he studied trumpet, voice, and piano, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. As a musician, Mark is sought after as an accompanist, coach, conductor and music director. He has conducted nationally recognized concert band ensembles and has music-directed over 30 musicals. Mark is the proud music director of the amazing choir at St John’s United Church, a post he began in 2021 after having been the music director at Hillcrest United Church since 2004.

Boosting Joy by Singing:

“Canadian researchers’ study suggests that group singing doubles your production of the feel-good “cuddle” hormone oxytocin. Plus, it significantly reduces your output of the stress hormone cortisol. Investigators explain that singing as a group synchronizes your movements and sounds. This makes you feel even closer to those around you, giving you a joyful lift.”
